QUB Traditional Music Symposium April 23rd

Friday 23rd April is the QUB Traditional Music Symposium featuring music of the fiddle (In association with BTMS, ASCTM, and Madden’s Bar)  which will take place in the McMordie Hall and later in the Harty Room in the Queen’s University School of Music.

Dr Matt Cranitch (University of Limerick)  “‘It’s all in the bowing’: Pádraig O’Keeffe’s Fiddle Manuscripts”.
Katie Boyle (University of Limerick)  “Understanding the music of Neillidh Boyle – A Master of the Art of Fiddle Playing”.

FIDIL CONCERT 8pm HARTY ROOM
Tickets £6 for students (£10 to the general public).

Ireland’s premiere fiddle ensemble FIDIL will perform in the Harty Room at 8pm. FIDIL are the first traditional music act ever to be given a 5 star review by the Irish Times for their most recent album ’3′. This is their first public performance in Northern Ireland and a wonderful opportunity to see a truly world leading musical ensemble in an intimate setting. The band’s music combines the old fiddle repertoire of Donegal with an innovative and unique approach. Two of group are past recipients of the prestigious ‘Gradam Ceoil Young Musician of the Year’ award. See website (http://www.fidilmusic.com/Fidil/Home__Fidil.html)  for more information on the band. This is traditional Irish music as you’ve never heard it before so don’t miss this opportunity to see a wonderful group of musicians on top form.

CONCERT AFTER-PARTY (10pm – late)

Madden’s Bar will host its weekly Friday night session with conference delegates and performers in attendance from 10pm after the concert.

Saturday 24th April:
Fiddle workshop with Matt Cranitch
10:30-1:00 then 2:00-4:00pm

Fiddle Session in Madden’s Bar (3 – 6pm)
Fiddle players will take over Madden’s Bar for the afternoon for an open session. All welcome for a tune and a nice pint of Madden’s stout!
