Child Protection Policy

Belfast and District Set Dancing and Traditional Music Society

Child Protection Policy

The Society is committed to good practice, which protects children and young people from harm.  Staff and volunteers in the Society accept and recognise their responsibility under the Child (NI) Order 1995 and the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults (NI) Order 2003 to provide an environment which promotes the safety of young people at all times.

In order to safeguard young people we will:

Develop an awareness of the issues which could lead to young people being harmed.

Adopt child protection guidelines through a code of conduct for staff, tutors and volunteers.

Create an open environment by identifying a contact person whom young people can approach if they need to talk.

Let adults and young people know how to voice their concerns if there is anything they are not happy about.

Follow carefully the procedures laid down for recruitment and selection of staff, tutors and volunteers.

Share information about concerns with agencies and others who need to know.

Provide effective management for staff, tutors and volunteers through supervision, support and training.

Review our child protection policy, procedures and practice at regular intervals, at least every three years.

This Child Protection Policy statement was formally adopted by the Committee of the Belfast and District Set Dancing and Traditional Music Society on 3rd December, 2008
