Sarah Flynn is a concertina player and educator from Dublin. She has been inspired and influenced by many legendary musicians of past, present and various locations including Ella Mae O’Dwyer, Noel Hill, Bobby Casey and Jesse Smith. In 2019, funded by the Arts Council of Ireland, she launched her research project and debut album The Housekeepers with fiddle player Doireann Glackin, which received a 5 star review in the Journal of Music.
In this workshop for intermediate level players, Sarah will be exploring the life and music of Ella Mae O'Dwyer and Nora Hurley, two concertina players from the last century. Students will learn some of their repertoire, their approaches to ornamentation and most importantly how to steal like an artist!
