Dancing Classes
Monday nights are for Traditional Irish Dance at BelfastTrad. Get moving, active, and fit with set dancing or old-style solo step dancing also called sean nós step dancing. We also teach Scottish and Cape Breton steps in our upper level of solo dance classes.
All classes meet in the Dance and Sports Halls at Stranmillis University College.
Traditional SET dancing with Tim Flaherty
All Levels Mondays 8.15-9:15pm
The set dancing class is a great way to spend Monday evening, dancing and meeting new people. Bring a friend or come alone. No experience is needed. Beginners and learners are very welcome.
Traditional solo step dancing with tim Flaherty
Beginners Mondays 7:15-8:15pm
Tim teaches basic dance rhythms and styles, suitable for all levels, especially beginners!
Traditional solo step dancing with Berni corr
Intermediate Mondays 8:15-9:15pm
This class is for dancers with a some dance experience. Berni will teach some of her favourite steps, this term focussing on Hornpipes and revisiting some of our previous repertoire of old-style step dances.
Tim Flaherty
Tim is a dancer, accordion player and Tin whistler. From Belfast, he is known throughout the continent for his gentle good humour and deep knowledge of set dancing traditions. Tim regularly teaches set dancing around Ireland and Europe and plays a key role in the delivery of dance tuition for BelfastTrad. He doubles as our beginners and improvers tin whistle tutor.
Berni Corr
Originally from Co. Tyrone, Berni has a family background in traditional Irish music and dance. She started dancing with BelfastTrad in 1995 and has learnt from many dancing legends including James Keane, Celine Tubridy, Patrick O’Dea and many others throughout Ireland and beyond. Berni has been involved in the teaching and performance of both set dancing and old-style step dancing in both Ireland and Europe and has been a tutor with BelfastTrad for several years.
