Harp and Uilleann Pipes

Harp and Uilleann Pipes classes take place on WEDNESDAYS in the Stanmillis University Music Department.

Harp Classes are in Studio 4 and Pipes classes are in Studio 2.

We have a limited supply of Harps and Uilleann Pipes for hire for up to three successive terms. Please email info@belfasttrad.com to express interest.

HARP with Niamh Mooney

Beginners - 6.00-7:00pm
New absolute beginners welcome. Students normally spend 2 or 3 terms at this level. If you need to hire a harp, click above to check the availability.

Improvers - 7.00-8:00pm
This level will focus on developing a good hand position and basic left-hand bass accompaniments, getting more comfortable with the instrument and gaining confidence.

Intermediate/Advanced - 8.00-9pm
This class will work on ornamentation, expanding your repertoire and establishing a better, more complex, left-hand bass accompaniment.

UIlleann Pipes with tom clarke

Beginners - 7:00pm

Join this class if you are just starting out on the pipes. Tom will teach you the basics of holding the pipes and getting your first notes.

Intermediate 8:00pm

This class is for those who have completed a term or two at beginners and are ready for learning tunes by ear.

TOM CLARKE

Tom Clarke is well-known in piping circles. He has been teaching the pipes for many years now and is very skilled in explaining the intricacies of this ancient and beautiful instrument. While the pipes are not the easiest instrument to learn, their music has been an essential component of Irish music for over 300 years. unparalleled. Tom also organises the annual Belfast Piping Tíonol, held every March. In 2005 Tom was honoured to receive an award from Na Píobairí Uilleann in recognition and appreciation of over 30 years of dedicated teaching on the uilleann pipes.
